ABOUT ME
André Batalha Soares is a baritone from Portugal. He started his vocal studies in 2009 at the Conservatório Regional do Baixo Alentejo and later in the Academia de Música de Lagos with Joana Godinho as principal teacher. Here he began his path in classical singing while performing in Musical Theatre projects in parallel. André performed in West Side Story (2009), Peter Pan (2010), Cabaret (2012) and Sweeney Todd (2014).

After moving to the UK in 2015, André Performed numerous concerts as part of The London Chorus and Highgate Choral Society under Ronald Corp where he would occasionally perform as a soloist.
​
In 2018, he started his Undergraduate degree and in 2022, he graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) with Gary Coward as his principal teacher moving on to join the David Seligman Opera School in the same year to begin his MA in Advanced Opera Performance studying under Adrian Thompson.

Recent engagements include Chorus in the Judith Weir opera Miss Fortune (GSMD), Frank in Die Fledermaus (GSMD), Benoit/Alcindoro in La Bohéme (North Wales Opera Studio), Guglielmo in Cosí Fan tutte (Cardiff Opera and later in NWOS), Chorus in The Shoemaker (Welsh National Opera), Gaoler in Dialogues of the Carmelites (RWCMD) and Vater in Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel (RWCMD).

André is currently supported in his studies by the Leverhulme Trust.
